7 Books to Think About During the End of The World

7 books to read

Well, maybe the world isn't ending exactly, but we do have a lot of time on our hands and major shifts are happening. Here are some books that will help you think deeply about where we're at, while entertaining you at the same time. This list isn't full of the best books to distract you, but it is full of books that will carry you away into another world while giving you space to think about this one. So, escape into a book and consider all the things you're grateful for right now.

Parable of the Sower

Oh, Octavia, what an honor that you were on Earth. Parable of the Sower depicts a potential future very close to where we are. Written in 1993 with a president with the slogan "Make America Great Again" this series depicts the difficulty one girl has in Southern California while everyone is fending for themselves. I like this book especially because there's a created religion in it. There is a book that follows this called Parable of the Talents so it can keep you busy for a little while.

The City of Ember

The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau is a young adult book about people who live underground afraid of the apocalypse. People die of deadly coughs and that's all I remember. It is an enjoyable read and it is a trilogy so you can read all three in a row.

Super Sad True Love Story

Super Sad True Love Story by Gary Shteyngart is both terrible and wonderful. Designed like a traditional Russian novel but set in the future, this book is sure to get on your nerves while also having a deep impact. All the characters are detestable and everyone generates internet content for a living. Written in 2005, this book predicted our current world pretty gosh darn well.

The Sorrows of Satan

marie corelli

The Sorrows of Satan by Marie Corelli is on a lot of lists and for good reason. This tale gives a sympathetic look at satan's journey on earth, beholden by his word to make all art empty and bad. This is an engaging and contemplative work of fiction for our time! Themes include: Sympathy for evil, good art can't be hidden, bad art can't be pressed on people, and vapidity only goes so far.

The Book of Strange New Things

The Book of Strange New Things depicts a pastor's journey to a far-away planet where he becomes the clergy for aliens. They are obsessed with Jesus and he has to figure out why. Meanwhile, there are problems on Earth. Slow and weird, this book stays with you long after you read it.

The Self Sufficient Life and How to Live It

Worth the price, The Self Sufficient Life and How to Live It is a comprehensive and essential book for off-grid living and homesteading. From balcony gardening to tending 5 acres, this book has the best information that can be found.

Energy Medicine

Donna Eden's Energy Medicine is a fantastic introduction to understanding how healing really works. If you have been interested in reiki, energy healing, or just healing in general, this is a great introduction and essential text. Raise your energy, raise your immune system!
